Cigarette manufacturers enforce strict quality control, and the presence and alignment of the tear tape on soft packs and cartons is a key quality indicator. The detection devices installed on many lines show their limits in daily production.

The Limits of Conventional Tear-Tape Detection

Simple micro-switch sensors can only detect tape presence, not misalignment. Transmissive, photoelectric-sensor, capacitive and early image-based products tend to falsely reject or fail to reject at high machine speeds and are inconvenient to adjust. Post-forming carton vision systems are expensive, prone to missed and false detections, and clearly inadequate for transparent tape, while some image-based detectors suffer from fast light-source decay, low accuracy and insensitivity to film splices.

What Intelligent Digital Inspection Does Differently

An intelligent digital tear-tape inspection system accurately inspects and rejects online for all tear-tape types, including transparent, printed-pattern, printed-text, white, laser hot-stamped silver, gold and opaque tape. DSP processing technology supports complex algorithms, and image-based splice detection runs simultaneously with tape inspection, with no additional auxiliary equipment. Practical Results on the Line

The sensitivity adjustment range is more than 10 times that of conventional tear-tape detectors, and operators freely set the tape-misalignment inspection zone by drawing digital windows on the inspection image.
Tape misalignment greater than2 mm for three consecutive packs or cartons triggers a stop signal; the reject rate is at least 99 percent with a false detection and reject rate of no more than 0.1 percent, and process splices are rejected with counted shifting at 100 percent. The systems run maintenance-free for one year after commissioning and mount on the machine's original fittings without modification.
